Dr. Wolfgang H. Mahr has over 30 years of experience in consulting and project management in the ICT environment and has specialized in the area of business continuity management for the last 25 years. He has extensive experience in IT governance, IT security, business management, marketing, account and product management, in professional education as a learning content author and as a lecturer on the international stage. He holds a PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Vienna University of Technology, a Bachelor of Business Administration from GSBA Zurich, and is a long-standing member of the Business Continuity Institute (FBCI). He is a certified trainer of BCI and PECB.
He also has extensive experience in international environments and in organizational, process and technology consulting. He has worked for companies of various sizes. His skills include analysis of complex business processes, technical tasks and systems, and solution design. He is fluent in German, English and French.
Professional publications, a blog, a video channel and presentations at international conferences support the exchange of ideas on the further development of current issues on BCM and OR. He is an education partner of Soongsil University, Department of Business Continuity, Seoul, Korea.
Dr. Wolfgang Mahr is active in global standardization bodies (ISO TC/292, CEN TC/391, CENELEC TC/210 and TC/219, IEC/TC 77) and was president of the professional association BCMnet.CH - The BCI Swiss Chapter (2011 to 2014). He received a BCI Achievement Award in 2014, and in October 2015 he was awarded the title Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (FBCI). He has been a member of the DRI Future Visions Committee since 2015.
In 2020 he published the book (available in printed form and a e.-book) "Business Continuity - Ihre Krisenstrategie", Betriebsunterbrechungen meistern mit ÖNORM EN ISO 22301:2020, the English version followed in 2021, "Business Continuity - Your Crisis Strategy" - How to manage business disruptions with ISO 22301:2019. One of his hobbies being a radio amateur (call sign OE1MHZ), he has been appointed as chairman of the Region 1 Electromagnetic Compatibility Committee (EMCC) of the International Radio Amateur Union (IARU).
With great surprise, humilty and pride I received a BCI Achievement Award in November 2014.
This reflects my efforts in running and growing the BCI Swiss Chapter as a board member from 2009 to 2014 and as president from 2011 to 2014. I am indebted to my fellow colleagues of the board whose effort and dedication critically contributed to the chapter’s development.
